Top Ten Tuesday – Ten Websites I Love That Aren’t About Books

Every week the lovely people over at The Broke and the Bookish conjure up a new Top Ten list for us book bloggers to write about and this week is all about non-book websites. Now I have to be honest, this week’s challenge was tricky – it seems that my online life really does revolve around books! But, after much soul- (and internet history-) searching I have found a few little corners of the internet that I frequent that are decidedly unbookish…

It has been a long journey to get used to Twitter. I never really posted because I didn’t get why anyone would be interested in 140-characters of my thoughts (most of which are completely random!) but now I have gotten over that barrier, I love it!

BBC GoodFood
I love reading recipes and have been a subscriber to the GoodFood magazine for a fair few years now – it makes me so happy seeing it sitting in my post box after a long day of work! But sometimes I like to know what I need, ingredient-wise, before I get home and so to the website! It’s so easy to use and the reviews are well worth a read for any tips and tidbits on the listed recipes.

Katy Brennan is the dream – there I’ve said it. Her posts are as honest as they are humorous, as pretty as they are pitch-perfect. Her London-based lifestyle blog has many elements, from reviewing events and restaurants to honest posts about being actress in the capital. She’s brill and her blog never fails to cheer me up – go and see for yourself.

Nagi is an amazing cook whose website I could browse for hours! Her recipes are always accompanied by some mouthwateringly good photography and they are never overly complicated. She writes delicious recipes for on-the-go people – only thing is, I wish I could cook like Nagi!

Fun and feminist, Stylist magazine hits the streets of London every week but my train stops never have hard copies going (boo!) Thankfully, the lovely people at Stylist have a free online version for my leisurely perusal so I never miss out!

Standard Issue
Run by comedienne extraordinaire Sarah Millican, there is something for every woman on this website – arts, lifestyle, health, food… you name it, it’s covered! Lovely to dip in and out of, it’s perfect for a lunchtime read.

The Moth
This is technically a podcast but I like to catch up and dive into their archive online. For those of you haven’t yet discovered The Moth (or the UK equivalent of Spark London) you should – it’s a recorded open mic night where strangers, professionals, minor celebrities tell a random story to get it off their chest or to simply entertain. I love hearing all the tales!

As a poor editor, eBay is my shopping salvation! Books, clothes, DVDs… you name it, I buy it. To buy, eBay is cheap at half the price (and I do love a bargain!) and it’s also an easy place to sell my unloved and unwanted should the bank balance be looking a tad low…

Things {We} Make
Ed and Claire are serious DYIers and they run the beautiful Things {We} Make website showcasing all their delicious and delightful homemade goodies. Claire is a photographer by trade so their wares are always beautifully photographed and displayed to perfection – DIY/cookery porn right here!

The Bloggess
Jenny Lawson is another woman on this list who is quite simply the dream! Mental, American and perfect, Jenny’s insights into the world are uniquely entertaining. Her first book, Let’s Pretend This Never Happened, was utterly hilarious and the perfect introduction to her mad, mad world Read the blog and her book – you will snort coffee on an unsuspecting fellow commuter though. You have been warned.

  1. Thanks for introducing me to RecipeTinEats! I’ve only done a quick browse through the site but the recipes look super delicious… and I always love me some good foodie blogs, haha. 🙂
