Looking Forward – A New Reading Challenge for 2015!

Now I am sufficiently recovered from the let’s call it ‘merriment’ of New Year’s Eve (Happy 2015 everyone!) I am able to let you in on my reading plan for the next 12 months.

Here at Through the Wardrobe 2015 is the Year of the Debut Novel and I am very excited!

2015 Challenge

I imagine first books as strange little beasts – so unbelievably difficult to write but so hard to stop writing until that first story that was buried within you for so long has, finally, been told. They aren’t always polished or accomplished but they are necessary to confirm each author’s stance as a fully-fledged writer.

So with a new year promising a new start and the hope of new challenges I thought that celebrating a selection of debut novels and novelists would be a perfect way of keeping that new year hopeful feeling all year long.

Earlier this year Shortlist released their 30 best debut novel list and, while there are other absolutely fantastic debut stories out there, I thought it was a really good way of reading, reviewing and researching the classics and contemporary classics I hadn’t necessarily read before.

Other debut novels will, of course, feature throughout the year but the 30 on this list are the glue – each will be reviewed and then followed up with a feature on what the author went on to do next.

So without further ado my thirty books for 2015 (in no particular order) are:
The Hobbit
The Pickwick Papers
Jane Eyre
A Study in Scarlet
The Time Machine
The Portrait of the Artist As A Young Man
Other Voices, Other Rooms
Fight Club
Less Than Zero
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
Catch 22
To Kill A Mockingbird
The Catcher in the Rye
Dr Zhivago
Sense and Sensibility
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest
The Bell Jar
Invisible Man
Adam Bede
The Bluest Eye
The Wasp Factory
The Picture of Dorian Grey
The Kite Runner
Robinson Crusoe
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

Here’s to a brilliant 2015 and very happy reading!

    • It’s going to be a big challenge but will keep me reading and blogging throughout 2015! Feel free to read along with me, I’d love to see how other people re/reread the classics!
